Welcome to PanAsia!

As our name implies, PanAsia is an RSO at UChicago that is not dedicated to just a single group or idea, but a widespread collective of Asian traditions. We hope to cultivate general interest and appreciation for the many facets of Asian culture, something all of us truly value.

To achieve this, PanAsia coordinates several initiatives throughout the year, the largest of which is the annual Spring Festival. Spanning just over a week, the festival presents an exciting series of cultural events involving all sorts of entertainment, including: music, art, writing, film, & food. Interspersed are a few lectures and discussions of the political, social, and cultural issues which affect Asians and Asian diasporas everywhere.

This past year, the Spring Festival kicked off with WongFu Productions, who shared some of their private projects (unavailable online!) as well as a sneak peak of their newest projects, before enlightening us about the film industry and their efforts to raise Asian visibility in American media. For the Festival’s closing, the immensely popular MTV's America's Best Dance Crew: SoReal Cru performed for a large crowd and stayed for a long meet and greet—right after a showcase of several styles of dance from other RSOs on campus, including bhangra.

A list of the past Spring Festival events which include a screening of Harold & Kumar Go To White Castle with the film writers, Cambodian silk sales, and a screening of the film "Electric Shadows" with visiting professor Kristine Harris.

Hopefully, this year you will join us—whether during our weekly meetings, or even just for a few events during the Spring Festival. We at PanAsia look forward to seeing you.
